2009 Millikan Baseball Opening Day(Feb. 21, 2009) - Fresh cut grass, beautiful blue skies and the ping of an aluminum bat striking a baseball. The smell of chili, the rumble of vintage cars and vendors making sales. Breakfast burritos, BBQ hot dogs and hamburgers. It was Opening Day for the Millikan High School Baseball Program. The day started off with the arrival of the vintage cars. A 63 Vette, 57 Chevy and 65 Mustang, to name a few, pulled onto the campus and parked on the softball outfield grass adjacent to the baseball field. Over 20 vintage vehicles took part in the 1st Annual Car Show fundraiser. There was live music courtesy of James Mata. Vendor Row filled up quickly and a buzz could be felt as the food and merchandise booths sold their wares to eager fans. Players took the field for the first game of the day which pitted the Frosh/Soph team vs the Junior Varsity team. Soon after, the Chili Cook-off began and the aroma of several different specialty chilis filling the air. After the Alumni Gameconclusion of the first baseball game, the Varsity team faced off with the Millikan Alumni. The Varsity team took the trophy for the second year in a row. The final game of the day was a mixed parent/player softball game. Hundreds of people enjoyed the Opening Day event. The day was a huge success for the Millikan High School Baseball Program. Thanks to everyone involved in making Opening Day a hit!
