With a win over Cabrillo, the Millikan Rams extended their lead over the rest of the league to three games, with just three games remaining.  With the Rams’ next game against Compton, it’s probably about time to start partying over there in East Long Beach, thanks to Millikan’s 14-0 win over the Jags.
Andrew Culver started for the Rams and pitched six innings, striking out two and giving up four hits—he improves to 4-0 in league, and 6-4 overall.
Cody Hazel was 2-2 with 2 runs and 3 RBIs in the game, with a home run too. Hazel knocked in the first run in the third inning, with two outs, which opened up the game for the Rams.  His two-run homer when Millikan was up 4-0 sealed the win, and quite probably the league title to boot.

Millikan’s potential clincher will be played on Wednesday at Compton, at 3pm.

It was the tale of two pitchers at Blair Field last night as Millikan starter Josh Frye battled with Wilson’s J.T. Mazalewski.  And wouldn’t you know it, two unearned runs proved the difference as Millikan (8-0) remained atop the Moore League with a 2-1 victory.  Wilson (4-4) fell to fourth place with the loss.

Mazalewski went seven strong and gave up six hits, and according to coach Andy Hall, "That's just typical T.J.  He gets the first pitch strike, he gets the first guy out, he gets guys to pound it into the ground."  The diminutive righty had the Rams rolling over on his breaking ball, and only two of those six singles left the infield.

Meanwhile, Frye struggled to find the strike zone early in the game, and Wilson scored a run in the second inning off Sean Buckle’s RBI single that drove in Bryan Haver. "I just tried to keep my defense in the game," said Frye, who loves to work quickly.  "I knew someone would clutch up."

Catcher Emmy Antonaras and center fielder Brandon Sadler clutched up in the field and showed off their arms.  Antonaras got the a very important out in the first inning with a throw down to second and Sadler gunned a man down at third in the fifth to get out of the inning. In the fourth inning Millikan came right back as Paul Slater singled.  When Matt Clampitt’s chopper caught Haver off-balance, his throw got past Blake Cooper at first and Slater came around from first to tie the game.  Andrew Culver then drove Clampitt in with an infield single for the game-winning run.

Once Frye got the lead, he settled in and went the distance while allowing just three hits and striking out seven.  At one point over three innings, Frye struck out five of seven batters. "That confidence is the most important thing to us right now," said Millikan coach Scott Glasser.  "When you're confident and relaxed, you're out there having fun, swinging at good pitches, picking each other up... we've definitely found a rhythm."

The Frosh/Soph baseball team lost to Paramount High School on Monday 7 to 5. After falling behind 7 to 0 after 2 innings the young Rams settled in by shutting down a very good Paramount team the rest of the game. The Rams battled back to score 2runs in the 4th, 2runs in the 5th and a run in the 6th but fell short.

The Rams traveled to take on Wilson on Wednesday and dropped a tough game 3 to 1. The Rams out hit the Bruins 7 to 5 but could not come up with the clutch 2 out hit when needed. The Rams loaded the bases twice in the game with 2 out. Jimmy Norman had a quality start pitching 4 and 1/3 innings allowing 3 runs on 5 hits. J K McGill did a fine job in relief working the final inning and 2/3. Mitch Marietti, 2 for 3 and Jimmy Norman, 2 for 3 with a double and scored a run led the offense.
