In a game that saw good pitching, solid hitting on both sides and great defense by the hometeam Lancers, Lakewood did what many outsiders favored them to do, and beat the Rams 3-0 Wednesday. Millikan pitcher Josh Frye did what many expected him to do as well, as the league’s reigning MVP. Frye pitched a gem, limiting a very potent and highly rated Lakewood offense to just one earned run over 6 innings.

The game was close and could have gone either way, with Lakewood putting up 5 hits to Millikan’s 5, but in the end, it was Lakewood who took advantage of a couple of key opportunities to score. In the 2nd inning, with 2 outs, a line drive hit to right field appeared to have been caught by a diving Adam Annella. However, the field umpire saw it differently and called the ball a hit, giving the Lancers their first run of the game. That would prove to be the only run they needed.  Millikan bats were hitting the ball well, especially early in the game, putting the leadoff batter on base in 3 consecutive innings, but Lakewood defense turned 4 double plays to keep Millikan from scoring. The Lancers pushed across 2 more unearned runs in the 6th to make the final score -  Lakewood 3, Millikan 0.

Next up, the Rams face the Poly Jackrabbits at Blair Field, on Friday at 3:30.
